Lighthouse Rescue Mission

A BEACON OF HOPE IN OUR COMMUNITY

We embrace the poor and homeless with the compassion of Jesus Christ, as a beacon hope and healing for a changed life, helping them to find their way home.

The story of the LightHouse Rescue mission began in 2004 as a group of passionate volunteers and a collection of local churches sought a solution to the homeless issue in Tulare.  The mission statement for the organization is:

We embrace the poor and homeless with the compassion of Jesus Christ, as a beacon hope and healing for a changed life, helping them to find their way home.

Through the faithful and generous support of our community, the initial effort produced the LightHouse Women's Shelter in 2006.  In 2013, we were able to enhance our service to the community through the LightHouse Family Center.  There are no easy answers to resolve the needs of the homeless in our city.  However, through the continued support of our community and trust in God we are excited about what comes next.

Women’s Shelter

The Women's Shelter opened in September of 2006 and is comprised of apartments with common living areas to provide a home-like atmosphere.  Along with temporary housing, the shelter provides connections to community resources, parenting classes and Bible studies for the women and tutoring for the children.

Collette’s Closet

Collette’s Closet is a thrift store whose proceeds benefit the Lighthouse Rescue Mission. The store accepts gently used women’s, men’s and children’s clothing as well as household goods and home decor, to sell to the public at discounted prices. Donations should be brought to the store during business hours.

Collette’s Closet aids in furthering the ministry to the homeless in Tulare by providing income for Tulare Lighthouse, job training for some of the shelter residents and, as always, clothing to those in need. New volunteers are always welcome!
